This report is designed for those who are interested in tools which can support their own efforts toward growth and well-being on all levels. Using astrology, flower essences, gemstones and gem elixirs, color, music, aromatherapy, visualization, and other methods, one can transform difficult patterns in one's life and manifest more of one's positive potentials.

Our emphasis is not so much on eliminating undesirable traits or experiences as on bringing one into balance so that the positive expression of one's astrological signature can manifest. A person who is essentially inward and shy and who has trouble making his way in the world will not become a dynamic, flamboyant world-conqueror, but he can build confidence in reaching out to others. Rather than attempt to get rid of his shyness, the focus would be on discovering the positive gifts his gentleness may offer him and alleviating the more extreme, isolating aspects of his shy nature. Using these "vibrational" tools, issues that one may have struggled with for years can be eased, and long-buried talents and loves can be awakened.

Many of the tools suggested herein, including astrology, work on what esotericists refer to as the energy bodies, the chakras, or the aura. This subtle energy field, which emanates from every living thing, is where our energetic and emotional habits, thought patterns, belief systems, and so on reside. Introducing the energy pattern of a flower, plant, gem, or mineral into one's aura directly affects one's emotional and mental energies, and over a period of time this promotes long-lasting changes.

The key factor in using any of these remedies or tools is one's positive intentions, willingness, and desire for harmony and health. They are not "magic". Used consistently and with conscious intention, they reinforce and accelerate desired changes. In the back of this report is a listing of resources where you can obtain the flower essences and other products suggested for you. There are also other tips and instructions.

As you read over your report you may see a number of areas that you would like to work with. There is a lot of information here and the possibilities can be very exciting! However, it is usually best to attend to one issue or cluster of related issues (a theme) at one time. Choose whichever one is most meaningful or troublesome to you at present. Keep in mind that you will NOT manifest all of the potential imbalances mentioned. Some issues may have already been resolved, and some will simply not be relevant. In deciding which issue to focus on, follow your intuition. Remember, too, that gentle, persistent effort is usually necessary in re-patterning and creating any real change. Best Wishes to You!

Sun and Ascendant: General Characteristics

The position of the Sun in your birth chart represents the person you are at heart and the path you must follow to fulfill yourself as a unique individual. It also indicates your personal strength and vitality, as well as what activities or life experiences you require to feel alive and to replenish your life force. The Sun represents your personal identity.

Sun in Taurus:

Key issues: Security, grounding, building solid forms.

Key qualities: stability, constancy, endurance. Appreciation of nature and earthy, sensual life. Contentment.

Essentially constructive and down to earth, you have practical abilities that you wish to put to good use. Like the earth herself, you are a provider, a producer, a stabilizing force, solid comfort to those around you. You seek tangible security and prefer predictability to surprise. Though gentle, peace-loving, and rather soft on the outside, within you are purposeful and often immovable. You are replenished by contact with the land and the natural world. Generally you prefer the relaxed, steady pace of a small town or rural setting to a dynamic, modern urban tempo.

When out of balance you may feel heavy and dense. You may struggle with inertia, be resistant to change, and have an obstinate need to control. A tendency to hoard and accumulate money, possessions, or excess weight arises when you do not feel secure.

Patterns of Imbalance:

When your reliability, patience, and ability to endure is expressed as "life is a struggle", "I must plod on, everything depends upon me", or inflexibly and rigidly maintaining a position even when it is to your detriment: the essence OAK.

For stubborn attachment to the known, and resistance to change: the flower essence round-leaved SUNDEW.

Gemstones that may be beneficial to wear, carry, or take as an elixir:

CHRYSOPRASE, EMERALD, and other green gems.

Sun Conjunct Moon:

Your conscious intentions and desires are frequently at odds with your subconscious beliefs or inclinations, which can lead to chronic tension. If you try to ignore or override your emotional self (the things you really need and long for), you will repeatedly subconsciously sabotage yourself. You are a complex person! You need to allow yourself to express the contradictory sides of yourself, and not expect consistency of yourself at all times. The flower essences DEER BRUSH and OCOTILLO can help you integrate mixed or conflicting motives. (Read the moon chapter to clarify your inner or subconscious motives.)

Sun Conjunct Jupiter:

To feel your best you need openness and spaciousness, both psychologically and physically. What for someone else might feel compact, cozy, and secure may well feel cramped, stifling, and crushingly limited to you. This is important to recognize, whether you are choosing a place to live, making a career decision, or negotiating interpersonal relations. You need a view preferably one that is big and inspiring and not just out your window, but also for your life. Otherwise you will suffer from chronic restless dissatisfaction which ultimately will affect your health. You need to be on the stage of life in a big way, you need a sense of freedom. You feel best when you are doing something a little risky and open ended, something that has growth potential. However, grandiosity, lack of humility or discipline, inflated egotistical desires, or foolish overoptimism can bring you down. Health wise, excesses and overconsumption are your nemesis.

Flower essences that will help you to bring out the better side of this pattern include: SAGE (for perceiving the higher purpose and meaning in life events), and SUNFLOWER (for balancing a distorted or grandiose sense of self).

Sun Quincunx Pluto:

The correct use of personal will, charisma, and power is a major life lesson for you: you must learn to be a positive force. As you learn to claim your power, you may encounter powerful authority figures who abuse power, undermine your confidence, bully or tyrannize you, and it is up to you to choose how to respond: to be a victim, to become an oppressor yourself, or to use your own power to do yourself and others good. Quite possibly, it was your relationship with your father (or other significant males in your early life) which was undermining or toxic. Problems with men or authority in general, and a destructive, subversive desire to undermine those in power could result. An obsessive desire to be somebody, to be recognized, or to exert influence may drive you sometimes to do things that compromise your integrity or values.

The following essences would be helpful to you in this regard: SUNFLOWER (balances the ego and conflicts related to the father), and SAGUARO (for letting go of false self-identifications and illusory aspects of the self). For the excessive, egoistic ambition the flower essence TRILLIUM can be helpful and for leadership distorted by self-aggrandizement, LARKSPUR.

Spiritual wounds and blockages in the solar plexus due to subtle or overt abuse at the hands of a powerful person or persons in your life may need be cleared out. Books related to this, which may be appropriate for you, include Healing The Shame That Binds You and others by John Bradshaw, Legacy of The Heart by Wayne Muller, and Guilt is The Teacher, Love is The Lesson by Joon Borysenko. The color bright GOLDEN YELLOW and the gem elixir GOLD strengthens the solar plexus. Energy work (such as Reiki, polarity, etc.) on the solar plexus can also be very healing. Flower essences that specifically clear out withheld pain and toxic emotions or situations include: HOLLY, MOUNTAIN WORMWOOD and WILLOW (for releasing resentment, grudges, hate for others or for oneself). FIREWEED, BISBEE BEEHIVE CACTUS, and STAR OF BETHLEHEM clear out old traumas held energetically in the physical and subtle bodies.

Gemstones that would also be appropriate to wear or take as an elixir include: BLACK TOURMALINE and MALACHITE.

Your Ascendant (or Rising Sign) describes your physique, as well as indicating how you relate to and are affected by your environment. It has a direct bearing on your physical health.

Ascendant in Virgo:

Your physique could be described as delicate, sensitive or highly responsive to subtleties. (As such, all of the vibrational remedies mentioned herein and others such as homeopathy, are especially effective for you.) What others may see as your finickiness about food, or the effects of environmental toxins, or your need for a particular type of environment is due to the fact that you register and feel the effects of such things very directly and immediately in your body in ways that others may not. You need to honor and respect what you instinctively know to be good for yourself; otherwise you are apt to be plagued by allergies or simply be much less vital than you could be. Irritability is one signal that you may be ignoring your body-mind-spirit's requirements.

You have a particular affinity with herbs, and learning basic herbal remedies can be invaluable.

One of the psychological factors that can affect your health most directly is your propensity to criticize, dissect, or worry about yourself and your health. When out of balance, you can become hypochondriacal and magnify your symptoms because of your worry. At such times it is essential for you to avoid anything which increases your fear, and seek out reassuring or inspiring company, information, etc. The flower essences FILAREE, MIMULUS, and CRABAPPLE can be most helpful at such times.

Asc. Trine Mars:

Strong and direct without being too aggressive, you can accomplish whatever you will. You also have strong, active powers of immunity to disease, and usually recover quickly from injuries.

Moon and Venus: Emotions and Feelings

The position of the Moon in your birth chart reflects your emotional nature, what you need to feel nurtured, what feels familiar and comfortable to you. It is also your deeply-held beliefs and mostly unconscious or instinctive responses, which play themselves out in your closest personal relationships. Your moods, memories, dream life, and feeling-self are depicted by the moon in your birth chart.

Moon in Taurus:

Key issues: establishing emotional security and rootedness; Maintaining and preserving; Attachment to what is familiar and in the natural order.

Key qualities: steady, peaceable, slow to respond or react, fertile, abundant.

Emotionally you are rather sturdy, and able to maintain your poise and centeredness in the face of considerable outside pressure. You are slow to react and resistant to change, preferring contentment, peace, and the security of your familiar world to exciting novelty or "progress". You lean more to conservative or traditional ways, values, and wisdom, and find comfort in these things. You are also very instinctive and in touch with your senses and sensuality, the earth and the natural world. You love food, home comfort, simple pleasures. Because your emotional needs and tendencies are toward what is simple, wholesome, and natural, you may not be aware of, understand, or wish to investigate others' emotional complexities or depths. Thus, your solutions to emotional issues or problems between people are often sensible but simplistic, leaving out subtleties and the mysterious, unexplainable elements. Your down-to-earth, dollars-and-cents, meat-and-potatoes, if-it-ain't-broke-do-not-fix-it approach does not always work when feelings, passions, or emotional yearnings are involved.

At your finest, you express the energies of The Good Mother / Earth Mother / Goddess: abundant hospitality, patient nurturing and caring, generous warmth and kindness.

Patterns of Imbalance:

When out of balance you are prone to lethargy and inertia, feeling heavy, sluggish, or stuck. Regular, rhythmic aerobic exercise in the outdoors, such as bicycling, swimming, or aerobic walking (not strolling!) would be excellent for this.

Frequently including spices which have warming, energizing properties, (such as ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, coriander, cayenne) would also help alleviate this. Although you have a natural affinity for the color green, you could use MAGENTA to stimulate and quicken your energies. Wearing this color will help you feel less inert. (In appendix I are more detailed instructions for how to directly incorporate color into your energy system.)

Flower essences that may be appropriate for you when you are out of balance include:

For being possessive, emotionally greedy, clinging: the flower essence CHICORY.

For fear of lack, inability to give or share freely, or to trust in a higher providence; insecurity based on feeling you do not have "enough" materially: the flower essence STAR THISTLE.

For feeling dull, sluggish, or that you are stagnating, unable to move forward toward change: the essences PEPPERMINT and CAYENNE.

Gemstones which can be worn, held, or taken as an elixir to attune you to the earth-goddess-nurturing aspects of yourself include: EMERALD, CHRYSOCOLLA, CHRYSOPRASE, and GREEN JASPER.

Moon Conjunct Mercury:

Your temperament and emotional predisposition is lively, active, and keenly alert. When stressed, you are prone to nervousness, restlessness, an inability to sleep deeply or to relax, hyperactivity, or feeling scattered, anxious, or "wired". When this occurs, consciously slowing yourself down and reducing outside stimulation (turning off the television and telephone), and doing some earth-bound hobby or chores can be helpful. Warm bathes, especially including LAVENDER, SANDALWOOD, or CHAMOMILE essential oils, can be soothing and helpful. The flower essence of PEAR BLOSSOM, which promotes emotional calm and peacefulness, may be useful during particularly stressful times.

On another level, your mind tends to dwell upon the past or on history, and to be strongly influenced by memories. If you find that nostalgia and sentimental longing for the past prevents you from being fully in the present, the flower essence HONEYSUCKLE is helpful. Also, writing about the past, keeping a journal or scrap book, and "telling your story" is very satisfying and can also be therapeutic for you.

Moon Square Neptune:

You are like a psychic or emotional tuning fork, picking up and resonating to the feeling state and energies of those around you. The development of objectivity, detachment, discernment, clarity, and psychic, emotional, and energetic boundaries is thus essential to your emotional well being. Otherwise you are apt to be dominated by outside forces and probably be very confused! Participating in what are popularity termed "co-dependent relationships" can also arise.

You are easily moved by others' distress and your own emotional idealism, innocence, naivete, or gullibility. Passivity, evasiveness, escaping into fantasy or addictive, mood altering substances, and self-deception are potential pitfalls on your path. In truth, you do need your hope, your belief, your faith, and some sort of spiritual nourishment on a regular basis, but need to balance it with realism. Because of your sensitive nature, flower essences and other vibrational remedies are very effective for you. Some that may help you with the above issues include:

For being too easily taken advantage of: the flower essences CENTAURY and BLEEDING HEART.

For maintaining strong psychic boundaries and protection from bombardment by others' feelings and needs: the flower essences YARROW, WILD GRAPE, RED CHESTNUT, and RHUBARB, and the gem essence of HEMATITE.

For greater willingness to face your true feelings: BLACK-EYED SUSAN and AGRIMONY.

For addictive tendencies: MILKY NIPPLE CACTUS, MILKWEED, and CALIFORNIA POPPY.

For developing your psychic talents in a balanced way and integrating your spiritual or psychic perceptions into everyday life: the flower essences MUGWORT, GREEN ROSE, and LOTUS.

Moon Quincunx Pluto:

In your family, your most intimate, personal relationships, or your inner emotional and soul life, you carry deep compulsions or psychic wounds. Clearing away hidden traumas, the seeds of which may go back even to previous existences, is necessary. A history of family secrets, previous emotional separations, (along with guilt, shame, resentment, mistrust) or a deep fear of the feminine and/or of becoming a parent yourself may result. You are particularly sensitive to emotional separation which trigger old feelings of abandonment and loss. Thus you are susceptible to emotional blackmail and threats of abandonment from people you are close to.

Flower remedies can be very supportive to you as you face and heal such issues, and energy work (Reiki, polarity, or similar therapies) on the base, sacral, and solar plexus chakras may be very helpful as well.

For releasing old sorrow and grief, the flower essences: STURT DESERT PEA, BLEEDING HEART, and YERBA SANTA.

For accepting and releasing powerful emotions, and integrating painful emotions: SCARLET MONKEY FLOWER, BLACK-EYED SUSAN, FIREWEED, and FUCHSIA.

For resentment, bitterness, lack of forgiveness or hate toward self or others: MOUNTAIN WORMWOOD, WILLOW, HOLLY.

For improper or insufficient nurturing and leftover painful memories of childhood: GOLDEN EAR DROPS, MARIPOSA LILY, POMEGRANATE, EVENING PRIMROSE.

For feelings of shame, guilt, and fear of exposing your true self: PINK MONKEY FLOWER, FOOTHILLS PALOVERDE, CRABAPPLE.

For fears of intimacy or sexuality: HIBISCUS and STICKY MONKEY FLOWER.

For emotional traumas, shock, recovery from abuse: STAR OF BETHLEHEM, FRINGED VIOLET, COMFREY, BISBEE BEEHIVE CACTUS.

For breaking the spell of an abusive situation or relationship: BLACK COHOSH and WINTERGREEN.

For fear of the dark or negative woman (within or without): MALA MUJER.

Please remember that long-standing or deeper issues will take time and patience to heal, and you may experience an intensification or upsurge of the very pattern you are trying to address once you begin to use any of these remedies. You can temporarily stop taking them or get support from a trusted person to help you work these feelings and issues through.

Another healing activity for you in this regard would be to construct a personal ritual that includes the element of water to symbolize cleansing and purging yourself of the effects of the past. Using any of the above flower essences in a bath could be one of these.

The color PURPLE and the aromatherapy essential oil of VIOLET (used as a perfume or in your living environment, or as part of a healing ritual) stimulates forgiveness, and thus can help in the completion of your resolving emotional hurts.

Beware of the way you use power and control in your relationships, especially with your children if you have any, or others who may be dependent upon you.

The position of Venus in your birth chart reveals your capacity for love, intimacy, pleasure, giving and receiving, and relationships. Representing, also, your taste in beauty and your values, it is a key to how you can create harmony within yourself.

Venus in Taurus:

You are  pleasure-loving and an extremely sensual creature, and respond deeply to physical appearances as well as to textures, flavors, aromas, all earthy delights. You enjoy making others comfortable and attending to the physical needs of the ones you love. Food is very important to you.

In establishing harmony within yourself, contact with nature (especially lush, luxuriant green growth rather than a more austere or dry environment) is important.

In love, you seek security, constancy, and stability. Having or providing material well-being is part of this.

Emeralds, chrysoprase, and green or watermelon tourmalines are compatible with you, not necessarily to be worn when you are out of balance, but to promote a sense of being at harmony with yourself.

Venus Square Neptune:

You yearn for perfect love, are in love with love, are a fool for love. You may have more love for God or images of divinity, or perhaps more taken with romantic or erotic ideals, dreams, fantasies than you are with actual human beings. For you love is oceanic, without boundaries, something you want to completely immerse, merge, and lose yourself in... you resonate with Tolstoy's injunction to "love everything!". However this can cause confusion in your intimate personal life, for instance not understanding or respecting boundaries in your own or others' relationships, or believing that your love can do (fix, heal, make right) anything. You could become a martyr for love, think you have to be saint, or avoid actual flesh and blood relationships because no imperfect person can fulfill your longings. Friends or lovers disappoint you when you project your yearnings and dreams upon them. You are easily seduced, enchanted by beauty.

Art is a healing medium that you respond powerfully to. Using healing visualization and imagery, creating artwork, making mandalas or "medicine shields", or even visiting places where inspiring paintings or architecture can be viewed and absorbed engenders profound, positive changes in both your body and your soul.

Some books that may be helpful to you include: "Journey of the Heart" by John Welwood (to help integrate the spiritual with the intimate human relationship), and "The Picture of Health" by Lucia Cappachione (about healing your life with art).

The flower essences that address possible imbalances in this pattern include: BASIL (to heal the spirit between spiritually and sexuality, which can lead to clandestine behavior or stress in marriage), PINK YARROW and BLEEDING HEART (for inappropriate merging with others, lack of emotional clarity about boundaries), and CALLA LILY (for ambivalence or confusion about gender or sexual identity).

Mercury: Thinking and Ideas

The position of Mercury in your birth chart describes your intellectual qualities, how you communicate or express yourself verbally, and in general how your thinking patterns operate.

Mercury in Taurus:

Your mind is practical and concrete, and you think logically, methodically, deliberately. After careful consideration, you are apt to form solid opinions that cannot be changed very easily. You may lack imagination or the willingness to entertain daring ideas. Exercises to clear and open the brow chakra may be useful.

Mercury Square Neptune:

Imaginative and poetic, your mind is attuned to universal themes. You are likely to study art, religious philosophy, mysticism, or the metaphysical . You tend to be farsighted (both figuratively and actually), and dreamy. Sometimes its hard for you to see what is right under your nose! You could become so otherworldly or immersed in fantasy that your logical thinking becomes disordered and you cannot handle practicalities very effectively. To counterbalance this, you may have to become super organized and careful about mundane affairs and details. If you do not strive for clarity and honesty in all of your communications and dealings with others, you could easily be bamboozled, or develop a reputation for deceptiveness yourself. Intoxicants of any kind profoundly influence you and cloud your judgment, and should probably be restricted or avoided entirely.

Essences and vibrational remedies work very well for you, due to your sensitive nervous system, especially if you are very consistent with them. The following flower essences may be useful: CLEMATIS (for absent-mindedness, poor attention to the immediate surroundings, withdrawing into imagination excessively), COSMOS (for unfocused thoughts, unorganized or "spacey" thinking), VIOLET (for over-sensitivity and shyness in social situation). If you feel you are too open, and too easily absorb others' energies or thoughts, the flower essences PENNYROYAL and YARROW, and the gem essence HEMATITE can be helpful. MADIA is a flower essence that promotes precise, focused thinking and concentration.

Mars: Ambition and Drive

The position of Mars in your birth chart indicates your will power, physical vitality and sexual drives, and your capacity for decisive action and self-assertion, as well as the musculature and adrenals in the physical body.

Mars in Gemini:

Your physical vitality and drives fluctuate considerably. You tend to work in short bursts of energy and enthusiasm, then slack off, and to run on nervous energy. You are mobile, versatile, spontaneous, capable of responding quickly as needs arise, but may also scatter your forces or dissipate them by talking too much. You are easily diverted, and need to develop continuity and to build stamina. The flower essence INDIAN PINK (which promotes staying centered and focused while under stress, and the ability to coordinate and manage diverse activities) may be quite helpful.

Jupiter and Saturn: Opportunities and Challenges

The position of Jupiter in your birth chart represents the principle of growth, improvement, expansion, faith, and the quest for ultimate meaning or broader understanding of life.

Jupiter in Taurus:

You experience a sense of connection to something greater (God, the Universe, the larger pattern of life), through living a simple life and attunement to nature. Perceiving the elegant wisdom of natural processes, you believe in letting things be, not pushing the river. You have a well developed capacity for sensual enjoyment and/or working with the earth.

Jupiter Conjunct Saturn:

You grow by having a positive attitude and philosophical approach to obstructions, difficulties, frustration, and the ups and downs in life. Vacillating between hope and doubt, confidence and fear, idealism and pragmatic realism can impede your progress (both spiritual and material). Become steady and patient, accept limitation, work with whatever is at hand in the moment, develop practical programs, skills, and strategies, learn to love what is difficult in your life. Read the "Tao te Ching" or "How to Handle Trouble" by John Carmody. Use regular ritual as a way to connect with spirit.

At times, pessimism and an inability to envision a better future or to see the big picture may impede you. Fearing success or overexpansion as much as failure, you may be blocked from taking any successful course of action.

The following essences can help:

GENTIAN, for discouragement and despondency after a setback; for feeling cut off from a source of faith or hope; to ease persistent skepticism which leads to a sense of meaningless or depression.

SAGE, to help perceive the higher purpose and meaning in life's events, and to offset the tendency to see life as ill-fated or undeserved.

On a physical level, your liver may function sluggishly, and a program to boost and tone the liver would also help with all of the issues mentioned above.

Jupiter Square Uranus:

You have an innate sense of the interconnectedness of life and of universal principles, but very little interest in formal religion or dogma. In fact you may often find yourself at odds with religious authority and conventions, perhaps needing to break away from the beliefs you were raised with in order to find your own way. Inspired and motivated by humanitarian ideals, you are essentially utopian and liberal in your beliefs. You view change, even revolution, as a positive thing and are quick to enthusiastically embrace the new, at least philosophically. You have a great need for freedom in order to pursue your inspiration, intuitive impulses, and opportunities which are presented to you suddenly. You will experience unexpected twists of fate and rapid gains or losses through speculative ventures. Because you are apt to take chances and go out on a limb (that is where the fruit is, right?), you will have periods of uncertainty in your life, during which the following flower and gem essences can be helpful: BIG ROOT JATROPHA (encourages a feeling of security during phases of expansion and change), COW PARSNIP (for inner peace during time of transition, as well as contentment with the present), AVENTURINE (supportive during transitional periods when you need to take a leap of faith), and PERIDOT (which stabilizes one during times of new beginnings).

The position of Saturn in your birth chart represents the bones, the skeleton, and the principles of hardness, heaviness, structure, stability, form, and boundaries. It shows what is hard for you, what you struggle with, where patterns of rigidity or fear hinder you, what is heavy for you, where you develop character, maturity, and depth through being tested.

Saturn in Taurus:

Your struggles tend to resolve around basic security. When you feel threatened, fears of poverty, want, or material loss loom large, whether they have any realistic basis or not. You may hoard money or possessions, accumulating as much as possible to protect yourself from future lack. At the same time, the things you own, or your material requirements and responsibilities, may be a constant burden. Worry about not having "enough" may prevent you from taking risks or fully expressing yourself in some area of your life, or impel you to overwork. Your enjoyment of the physical or material side of life may thus be impaired. If you are working with these issues at present, the flower essence STAR THISTLE (which promotes a sense of inner abundance and trust in a higher providence) may be helpful.

Saturn Square Uranus:

For you there is acute tension between accepting the rules and limits of society, the need for social approval, and practical concerns and constraints versus your urge to think and act independently, to be free, and be an individual outside of any system. Resolving this conflict is a major challenge. Feeling like an outsider, you may be furiously individualistic, rebellious, unable to cooperate with authorities, recalcitrant and stubborn, all of which can be disruptive to having a "normal" mundane life. Chronic restlessness or irritability is a signal that this conflict is at work. Ideally, a way of working within a tradition that honors the uniqueness of each individual can be found. Your role as reformer or one who helps society or your group by breaking up rigidity and old forms in order for new life to come in, can be positive one if you are willing to not polarize yourself against "them". Flower essences that can be very helpful if you are interested in working with these issues at this time include: SHOOTING STAR (for feelings of alienation), QUAKING GRASS (for harmonious social consciousness, flexibility and balance in working with others). SAGUARO (for healing conflicts with images of authority and separation or alienation from the past), and SCOTCH BROOM (to increase positive and optimistic feelings about the world and your place in it).

These essences or any other sort of personal healing work will not of course, change external injustices or oppression, but can help you cultivate harmony within, empowering you to make positive steps in the world.

On another level, you are apt to carry a great deal of tension within your body, and would benefit from regular massage therapy.

APPENDIX I
FLOWER ESSENCES, COLOR THERAPY, AND AROMATHERAPY

FLOWER ESSENCES:

The following information will enable you to make up your own flower essence remedies. However if you wish to try them but are not interested in doing it all yourself, you can contact a flower essence practitioner. Many astrological counselors and other holistic practitioners use the flower essences and gem essences in their work.

       1. Choosing your essences: Generally you can use up to five essences at a time. Some people believe five essences is ideal, as the number five is associated in myth and folklore with the healing process. Others find using a single remedy at a time most effective. Follow your own intuition and impulses on this, but please do not try to address too many issues at once. Gem essences can be used with flower essences.

       2. Making the remedy: Once you have chosen the essence or essences you wish to take, purchase them from the supplier in the concentrated form ("stock" bottles). You will need a glass dropper bottle such as pharmacists use for eye drops, which are sold at some pharmacies as well as through the flower essences companies. The one ounce size is standard. It should be sterilized by boiling it for a few minutes, then letting it cool. Then, put four drops of each concentrated essence into the bottle, close it, and shake it vigorously for about a minute so that the essences are well blended. Fill the bottle about 3/4 full with distilled or spring water. (For a more potent remedy you may wish to use color-solarized water instead, as described in the color therapy section). Then, close the bottle and, again, shake vigorously for about a minute. To preserve the mixture, add a teaspoon or so of either brandy or apple cider vinegar. (They work equally well; it is a matter of personal taste and preference).

        3. Using essences: The standard dosage is four drops four times a day, taken under the tongue. Taking more than four drops will not increase the remedy's effectiveness, and taking it more than four times a day is usually not necessary except in crisis situations. However, if you feel inclined to use it more frequently than four times a day, these remedies cannot be harmful in anyway. They are self-adjusting, meaning that you will simply not absorb more than you can use.

To further activate the remedy's effect, you may wish to use a simple affirmation that corresponds with your intent and the nature of the remedy. For instance, if you are taking a remedy to increase your receptivity to love, you can say "I now let love and appreciation into my life", each time you take the remedy. Keep the words simple, positive, and framed in the present tense. Or, you may wish to put a self-adhesive label on your bottle, with a list of the essences it contains and a short phrase such as "receptivity to love" or "opening the heart" which you will see each time you take the remedy.

Other very effective ways to use your remedy are to add 7 drops to a bath and/or several drops to an atomizer or spray bottle filled with water and spray it around the rooms of your house or workspace.

        4. What to expect: Please understand the flower essences do not "take away" troublesome feelings or attitudes. Some people actually experience a temporary intensification of the issues the remedy is designed to address, what is referred to as a "healing crisis", as strong emotions or other reactions begin to surface. Naturally you can temporarily stop taking the remedy if you get too uncomfortable. You can also get some support while this process is occurring, since a willingness to experience and feel what is actually there is an intrinsic part of the healing. Most people, however, find the remedies quite gentle. Insights into the nature of the problem and how you are contributing to or maintaining it may emerge. Or, you may simply notice a gradual attitudinal, emotional, or energetic shift, and more harmony in that area of your life. Some very sensitive people feel the effects of the remedies on their chakras (particularly the heart and solar plexus) immediately upon taking them.

If the pattern you are working with is longstanding, as the ones which are related to your birth chart are apt to be, you may need more than one bottle of given remedy. Or, after one bottle, you may want to give it a rest, and then go back to that remedy later. If you frequently "forget" to take the remedy or simply lose interest in it, this may be a signal that now is not the time for that particular one.

COLOR THERAPY:

Color can be used to calm or energize, to cleanse, to stimulate a given energy center in the body, or to promote balance and an overall sense of well-being. In addition to paying attention to how color affects you and using that awareness in your choice of clothing and home or office decor, here are two methods to utilize color:

        1. Color-solarized water: This is a very easy method. The supplies needed are a clear glass jar or bottle, colored cellophane (which can be purchased at an art supply store), drinking water, sunshine, and a clear quartz crystal (optional). Sterilize the jar or bottle, fill it with water, and if you wish add a clear quartz crystal (this magnifies the effects of the color). Then, close the bottle, wrap it in the colored cellophane, and secure the cellophane with a rubber band at the top. Place the bottle in a sunny spot for 2-6 hours, preferably outdoors. After removing the crystal, you can drink it freely and/or use it to make your flower remedies.

        2. Color Breathing: This exercise can be used to clear your energy system of psychic debris, stimulate a sluggish or blocked chakra, and promote healing. Choose a place that is well-ventilated. You may stand or sit as you prefer, keeping your spine erect. Begin by taking 2 or 3 deep, gentle breaths, inhaling slowly through your nose and exhaling through your mouth. Then as you breathe in, see and feel the color filling your entire body. As you continue to breathe, imagine the color surrounding your body as well, extending out about two feet all round you, to create a beautiful egg-shaped bubble of colored light. Simply breathe in this color for 5-10 minutes.

To work on a particular chakra, you may start by breathing clear, white, or golden light (as described above). Then focus your attention on the center that needs clearing or balancing. For the base or root chakra, imagine a glowing sphere of bright, apple red at the very base of your spine. As you breathe, imagine the light becoming stronger and brighter. For the sacral center (located about 2 inches above the pubic bone) the color is orange. For the solar plexus (halfway between the navel and sternum), the color is bright yellow. For the heart, green or pink. For the throat, sky blue. For the brow center (located between the eyebrows and up about one inch), indigo blue. For the crown center (at the top of the head), purple, violet, or white. (You may use which ever one you feel most attracted to).

If you cannot "see" the color with your mind's eye, just imagine that it is there. An inability to visualize a certain color often indicates a particular need for that very color.

To derive healing benefits from visualization and color breathing, it is not necessary to spend a great deal of time. Five to ten minutes once or twice a day is quite adequate. And, once again you decide when you have "had enough" of a given color or exercise. A change in your feelings about a given color (less attraction to or "craving" for it, or less repulsion toward it, for instance) can be a clue.

AROMATHERAPY:

Aromatherapy involves the use of essential oils from plants and flowers. It is much different from flower essence therapy in that it is primarily the "healing fragrance" which influences body and emotions through the scents. (Flower essences are odorless). Aromatherapy can be utilized either as a perfume (especially applied to the chakras), in bath water, in massage oil, or diffused in the air via steam or incense. Read labels carefully and take precautions using these potent oils.
